]]>During it’s long history, this unique town belonged to many countries, such as Turkey, France, Austria and even Russia. All these countries made their influence on the culture and development of the city. That is why Herceg Novi has so many different styles and spirits. It is bearing the marks of all these cultures. Additionally, every one of it’s rulers wanted to protect the city, so they were so persistent in building citadels and fortresses all around the bay.
So, it is no wonder that Herceg Novi is also called “The Fortress Town”. And has a great tourist attraction today.
The Old Town creates New Spirit
In the Old part of the town, there are many attractions, monuments and cultural heritage. Some of these deserve great attention. For example, one of the most important symbols of the city is “The Clock Tower”. In the time of Turks, this Tower was the main gate of the city. The decoration on the tower is made by clocks, so the citizens could know the time for muslim prayers. Inside the Tower, there is a beautiful artwork of the famous artist from Sarajevo. The name of the piece is “Black Madonna”.
Equally important are two more towers in the city – “West Tower” and “The Tower of St. Jeronimo”.
At the entrance to Old Town, there are coffee shops, restaurants and stores, so this really is the right place to catch a break. You can also enjoy on the square, where you can meet the fountain from 19th century.

In an rich collection of findings, a special place occupies the discovery of fresco-painted antique tombs. Scientist discovered more than 13,500 graves in this site. Also, all the fresco-painted Viminacium tombs belong to the late-Antique period. In fact, the exceptions are two tombs from the second half of the 3rd century. They are located at the late globe level of the necropolis, alone or in space inside and outside the memorial buildings.
Meet Vika
Vika, the skeleton of the oldest mammoth found in Europe discovered in June 2009, near the archaeological site Viminacium. She is one of the tropical southern mammoths. She moved from North Africa to Europe about milion years ago. The discovery of mammoth was the most valuable finding in Serbia. And the sightseeing of the site represents a truly unforgettable experience for every visitor.
Archaeologists found mammoth in a layer of yellow sand, and at a depth of 27 meters. Furthermore, palaeontologists estimated that the animal lived between 400,000 and a million years ago. Most likely it belonged to the species Mammuthus meridionalis, one of the most ancient mammals of Europe. In addition, after three years, seven skeletons of mammoths were discovered at Viminacium.

]]>Instead of the name, she put out a tin plate with a wreath of green coloured leaves. That’s how the restaurant got its name “Green Wreath”, and then the entire neighborhood. The tavern survived both world wars, and it was destroyed in the sixties in order to build a bus stop in its place.
Farmer’s Market
The Green Wreath aka Zeleni Venac – where the first Assembly of Serbian farmers was held, right after World War I – was the most modern market of all. Perfectly organized, with the widest offer, so that the citizens of Belgrade called it “The Queen of the Market”. Its building, which adorns the dome on top, is now under the protection of the state as a cultural monument, and is considered the oldest active market in the Balkans.
At the beginning of 2007, the City of Belgrade completely renovated the Market. Apart from the building for dairy products, public garages and shops, the area for selling fruits and vegetables is covered with a transparent canopy and air-conditioned. Today “Zeleni Venac” is one of the most modern green markets in the Balkans. Due to a unique architectural solution, the entire complex of the Market was declared a cultural monument of special importance.
Here you can find fresh fruit and vegetables from all over Serbia. Farmers come every morning and offer their customers delicious products from their own gardens. Also, it is ideal place for Vegeterians and Vegans. Thanks to its location, but also very affordable prices, which many experienced buyers say are the lowest in the city, it is extremely busy and almost always full of retailers and customers.

]]>In the Roman era, (1st century AD), there was a fortress named “Cusum“, between Petrovaradin and today’s Sremska Kamenica. During the time of Byzantium in the same place there was the fortress “Petricon”. In the 8th century, today’s Petrovaradin was in the French state, and since the 9th century, it was a part of the medieval Hungarian state. The Turks occupy the fort in 1526.
This fortress was a significant military fortress of Austrian rulers. During Napoleon’s conquests, Austrian rulers was using the fortress to hide important things and values. Today it is the centre of art and the environment in which the Exit festival takes place and the building whose mysterious underworld does not cease to intrigue the world’s researchers.
The most striking part of the Petrovaradin fortress is the Clock Tower at the Ludwig bastion, where hands looks very unusually. A small hand shows minutes, and the big one shows hours. This unusual clock was important for all the shipowners, because they could see the time from a distance.
The Labyrinth
Special charm of the Petrovaradin fortress is its mysterious four-storey underground, built in the 70’s of the 18th century. It was intended for the accommodation of soldiers and weapons. and had 12,000 loopholes, and installations of minefields for protection from the enemy were also envisaged. Today, many researchers are studying this labyrinth in a desire to illuminate the legends and secrets of the Petrovaradin Underworld.
The Planetarium
From the Petrovaradin Fortress you can watch the stars, in the Planetarium you can hear lectures from astronomy. See the settings of the Museum of the City of Novi Sad. “Petrovaradin Fortress in the Past” and “Novi Sad from the 18th to the 20th Century” are in the Topovnjača building. Visit the studios that are located in the basement rooms of the Long Barracks. Talk with the artists of this unique and largest art colony of this kind in Europe.
In addition to all these curiosities on the Fortress, take a little time for a light walk. Catch a break in the cafes and restaurants with a view over the Danube, seagulls and ships.
Try to feel the spirit of ancient times. The sound of the glamour of famous warriors such as Eugene Savoy, was walking on the Petrovaradin cobblestones.

]]>The only preserved object of the original airport complex is the hangar, that is, the workshop for maintenance and repair of aircraft.
Airport “Nikola Tesla” as we can see it today, was built in 1962. and first flight took off from it the same year.
Although we are a small country, we can proudly say that: the “Nikola Tesla” Airport terminal boards remembers the fierce walk of Fidel Castro, David Rockefeller’s decisive steps, and the ticking heels of Elizabeth Taylor.
Aeronautical Museum Belgrade
The museum was ceremonially opened in 1989. The idea of establishing Aeronautical museum was born practically with the birth of aviation in this region. Six months after the first flight took off thanks to Ivan Saric, who constructed the first plane in our area on 1911, the pilot Edvard Rusjan flew over the Kalemegdan fortress.
The Museum owns over 200 aircraft previously operated by the Yugoslav Air Force (both royal and communist), Serbian Air Force, and others, as well as aircraft previously flown by several civil airliners and private flying clubs. It also owns the only known surviving example of the Fiat G.50. The most valuable collections are housed in geodesic glass building, with additional aircraft displayed on the surrounding grounds.
In addition to the exhibit, the Museum also has an extremely rich and valuable archive, a library with several thousand foreign and domestic titles, magazines and technical instructions, a photo library with over 100,000 photos, negatives and film material. In museum depots there are stored thousands of valuable historical objects related to our famous aviation personalities, collections of medals, uniforms, flyers, gifts of foreign delegations to the war flight commanders. Within the museum building there is a cinema-conference hall, a polyvalent exhibition room, a restaurant and a dedicated souvenir shop.
The visit of Museum provides visitors with a unique opportunity to see in one place not only the development of our aviation that took place for more than 100 years, but also to ensure that in that period we often were in very front of world’s airplane industry.

Planning Your Cape Town Visit
A visit to Table Mountain
You can buy a ticket online for either a morning or afternoon trip to the top by cable car. However, an excursion to the 3,500-foot summit always depends on the weather, so check it before you go. It’s wise to bring a sweater with you, and wear sunblock and proper footware. If you plan hiking to the peak or along one of the trails at the summit, be safe and bring water, snacks and a friend.
How safe is it?
As in any other city you visit, it’s always best to keep your wits about you. It is recommended to take a taxi in Cape Town at night, rather than walking, and be on your guard when withdrawing cash at an ATM. If you’re curious about visiting a township, then go with a group led by an experienced guide.
When to go
Cape Town has a temperate climate. October to April offer warm and dry weather, but the notorious south-easter winds occur from December through January. February to mid-April has great beach weather, and hiking enthusiasts will enjoy crisp, clear days from late April to early June.
How many days should you spend in Cape Town?
Four to five full days allow you to experience the sites and sounds of the Mother City at a leisurely pace. Stay longer if you’d like and use the city as a base to explore the beautiful, surrounding areas in the Western Cape, such as the wine region of Stellenbosch.

]]>All the towns that lie on the banks of Lake Como enjoy breathtaking scenery of the Alps and the aqua-blue waters of Lake Como. You will see wonderful old villas and gardens with plenty of flowers and exotic plants. Como gained world fame in the 20th century thanks to the novel ‘The Betrothed’, by Alessandro Manzoni, set on the Lecco branch of the Lake.
You can’t stand at the Bellagio and watch these seven story fountains and not go, ‘That’s something of extraordinary man-made beauty.
