The Sloven tribes settled the territory of today’s Vojvodina during the VI and VII century. Before they crossed the Danube and the Sava rivers, they were settling on the Balkan peninsula. Particularly important cultural centers were Sremski Karlovci, Novi Sad and Fruska Gora monasteries. The government restored monastery complex in the 18th century. Now it is a specific cultural and historical unit of Serbian Baroque art.
In Vojvodina there are four castles with a rich and dramatic history. Three which are significant cultural goods and over 20 registered cultural goods. The most famous is the “Fantast” Castle who belongs to the Dunđerski family. The visitors are at the disposal of the Castle “Terei”, the Castle of “Dungeur” in Ecka and the Castle “Dunđerski” at Čelarevo.
The Dundjerski family was one of the richest families in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and certainly the most influential Serbian family in the country. Castles, dances, elegant dresses and gentlemen in wardrobes, waltzes … The nineteenth century in Vojvodina looked glorious, mostly thanks to the Dunđerski family.
One of the most beautiful and tragic love stories of Serbian literature is related to Serbian poet Lazar Lazo Kostic and young Jelena – Lenka Dunđerski. All the pain of this love was immortalized in the great poem of “Santa Maria della Salute”, written by Laza Kostic for a decade and a half after the tragedy.
Fruska Gora is one of the gems of Serbian tourism. The National Park on this Vojvodina mountain is rich in historical heritage, protected cultural goods and natural beauties. And in this area there are many tourist hotels and resorts. Also, the Provincial Government ranked Fruška Gora among the four major tourist destinations on its territory. Furthermore, private investors announced new investments, while the state is seeking a way to improve the infrastructure.

Belgrade - Sremski Karlovci - Fruška Gora
Setting off from Belgrade to Novi Sad in the morning
Visiting the baroque area of Sremski Karlovci, which includes wine tasting and a visit to the Museum of honey. Sremski Karlovci are Serbian Orthodox religious center with the oldest high school. This city is also known for wine cellars.
The next stop is national park "Fruška Gora". Fruska Gora had a great significance in the history of the Serbian people. Also, one of the largest spiritual centers in Serbia is located here. Hence, Fruska Gora, with its surroundings, has a huge number of cultural and historical monuments.
Petrovaradin Fortress
Visiting Petrovaradin Fortress - outstanding achievement of fortification architecture of XVIII century. This is one of the most complex, largest and best preserved artillery bastion in this part of Europe. It includes space above the nothern slopes of Fruška Gora on the right bank of the Danube. With the highest peak on 125m above sea level, occupies a dominant position over the southeastern part of the Pannonian Plain.

Novi Sad
Arrival to Novi Sad. Walk, accompanied by a guide. From Freedom Square, Zmaj Jovina and Danube streets, and Town Hall, all the way to the Serbian National Theatre. Novi Sad is one of the three biggest cities in Serbia. Although not applied for a most beautiful cities in the country, it would certainly have won the Grand Prix. Citizens of Novi Sad make it even more beautiful and elegant. In the age of rapid communication, they have saved a plain peace and natural kindness.
Here you will hear the story about tragic love of a poet Laza Kostic and famous daughter of Dundjerski family.
When Laza Kostic returned to Vojvodina after a doctorate in Pest, he worked in Novi Sad as a teacher, lawyer and president of the court. At the invitation of Lazar Dundjerski he moved to his estate in Čelarevo, where in 1891 he first met Lazar's daughter Lenka and immediately fell in love with her. Little is to say that Kostic was fascinated by her beauty and youth. The poet had 50, and was Lenka only 21 years old. Despite the difference, mutual sympathies were born and emotions grew day by day. You will hear about making most famous poem "Santa Maria Della Salute", which is the name of the church in Venice.
